The weekend was a lot quieter than it was meant to be. The original plan was to head over to Joust on Saturday and spend the day there. Fitting in shopping and stuff on Sunday. With Joust being cancelled Saturday turned into a washing and cleaning day, punctuated with watching Hot Fuzz with the trivia track turned on.
Sunday did a few more jobs and then had some salmon, green veg and mashed potato for lunch then played Angband (go ASCII graphics!) 'til Richard (no lj) turned up.
We wandered into town and had a look around the shops. Notably Waterstones was completely out of Harry Potter, but WH Smiths still had copies on the shelf. Went to Druckers and had cake (I had a toffee and apple diplomat with cream). I won't be getting a copy of the latest HP until my birthday in a months time. So I mustn't talk to anyone in between times!
Then wandered back with some sandwiches from Subway and set up the board for a game of Lord of the Rings.
This was 200 points of Rohan vs the same number of goblins. I was playing goblins. My band of hairy, smelly and dirty goblins proceeded to sweep across the board bouncing from cover to cover until they hit Richard's force unpleasantly hard. My tactics of forming into separate blocks and then taking out his force a bit at a time with overwhelming numbers seemed to work all too well and saw his force quickly whittled down. Frustrating for Richard. Still its his birthday next week and his pressie should cheer him up.
Not a bad weekend. Family visited and I rediscovered that red wine is very nice mixed into gravy.
I also sampled some of the special chocolates that I colleague got from Brussels. I had some spare Euros left and she had a stack of time after her meeting, so I gave her the addresses of some of the best choccy shops and she picked me up two boxes. I've opened the one from Wittamer and can report that they are verrrrrrry nice. The other one is from Galler and I'm saving those for the moment. Not sure how long I can hold onto them though as the cream in them means that they have to be eaten quite quickly.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
Also had blackcurrant meringue with chantilly cream and home made raisin cakes. :-)
One of my colleagues went to Brussels for a meeting yesterday and using instructions relayed from my Belgian penfriend, went to some of the best chocolate shops. She picked up stuff for herself and friends and a batch for me, using up a bunch of Euros that I'd been hanging on to for a couple of years. I now have to boxes of choccies, one from Wittamer and one from Galler.
I also made a chocolate fridge cake last night. This is a Konditer chocolate biscuit cake and is immensely rich with 200g of chocolate, butter, golden syrup, walnuts, biscuit, sultanas and cherries. I'm putting on pounds just thinking about it!
People seem to be taking a piece, biting into it, emitting several expletives and then wandering off with a glazed expression. I'm taking this as a good sign. :-)
That's with some Belgian biscuits that my colleague brought back and is currently being munched through by the office.
Hmmm... wonder if I could batter and deep fry it? :o)
