I don't know if this has happened to other people. Has anyone ever watched something on tv when they were little that scared them silly, then watched it again many years later just to get rid of the old nightmare?

Last weekend I watched just such a programme. It was an old episode of Space 1999. I know the series had a lot of ridiculous storylines and massive plot-holes but there was also some really amazing stuff.

The particular episode was called Dragon's Domain and was entirely done in flashback and narrated as part of a medical report into the death of a crewman. It looked back to an encounter between the crew of a long distance probe vessel and a mysterious graveyard of alien ships. On docking with one of the vessels a bizarre creature entered the vessel and killed off all but one of the crew.

I remember how terrifying the creature was, a doorway with tentacles squeezing through it, a gapping maw and a single glowing eye. It grabbed each member of the crew, sucked them in and then spat out a cobwebbed covered skeleton. Incredibly grusome.

I was very impressed by the episode, effects were good, the story was well structured, even the technology made sense, with the old probe vessel and the Eagles being designed along similar lines and modularly compatible.

I've got to admit that though the monster has lost some of its horror, it was still pretty scarey.
